Open enrollment for Marketplace (ACA) health insurance starts today. If you buy your own health coverage, or you're self-employed, between jobs or not offered a plan at work, this is your window.
The dates that matter in Florida
Florida uses HealthCare.gov. For 2027 coverage:
- November 1, 2026: open enrollment begins
- December 15, 2026: enroll by this date for coverage that starts January 1
- January 15, 2027: last day to enroll. Plans picked after December 15 generally start February 1
After January 15, you usually need a qualifying life event, like losing other coverage, having a baby, getting married or moving, to enroll.
Already have a Marketplace plan? Still look
If you do nothing, you may be automatically re-enrolled. But premiums, doctor networks, drug lists and your tax credit can all change from year to year. A quick review can save money or keep you with your doctors.
What to have ready
- Income estimate for next year for everyone in the household
- Names and dates of birth for everyone you're covering
- Your doctors and prescriptions, so you can check networks and drug lists
Families with kids
Children may qualify for Florida KidCare depending on household income, even if parents buy a Marketplace plan. The application can screen for both.
Don't forget life insurance
Health insurance pays for medical care. It doesn't replace your income if something happens to you. Open enrollment is a good time to check both.
